Layers of Victorian Adler

Description

The many layers of my most recent costume build for 221B Con. I was inspired to make a Steampunk Irene Adler when I found the beautiful flocked taffeta that reminded me of the BBC Irene's wallpaper. I didn't have a Steampunk group for 221B Con, nor did I have quite enough time to build any Steampunk accessories, so right now I simply have the Victorian Adler completed. I can work on additional pieces at my leisure. The entire build took about 5 weeks working around existing clients, family etc...

I was exceptionally pleased with how it all turned out and it was very comfortable to wear the entire day (from 9 am until 11 pm). My feet in the Victorian boots gave out long before the rest of me did.

I used the Truly Victorian patterns for the entire costume and I have to say they were a pleasure to work with. So easy to alter and adapt they make a great base for any project.

I was a bit concerned about the petticoat at first, but once I dipped it in liquid starch, dried it in the sun and ironed it? It was perfect and held the shape under the weight of those underskirt pleats.
